Social @ Church St.
Ever since I have known Bangalore, the Church Street has always delighted me for its food culture and social meeting point.
Last week, I had chance to explore a unique place called Church Street Social, when an eminent food personality of Bangalore invited me here.
This place is a socio urban retreat where you can pursue both your societal and official engagements. As quoted in their website, “Social is a collaborative workspace, a hub for artists and innovators.”
I had heard a lot of its breakfast affair and therefore we started by ordering few dishes from its morning menu.
Once you enter this place, you will observe that the ambiance is very subtle, earthy & rustic yet enchanting with lot of wood and browns shades being used.
First to be served was the Saddlebags, which included pancakes embedded with bacon, juicy chicken sausages along with Sunny side up and maple syrup accompaniment.
From the Breakfast trays we chose Hardy’s Bhai Istyle Breakfast, which was a Bun and Kheema affair, served with Bombaiya (Mumbai) Bun Maska, Masala Chai and Khara Biscuit.
– The keema was awesome though Buns could have been better. For me this was the best choice of food I made here.
It was followed up by the Harmeet’s Chic Breakfast which constituted Unique Muesli with fresh fruits with topping of Granola and yoghurt, accompanied by fluffy and very light egg white omelet with multigrain toast and choice of Fresh Juice or Tea /coffee.
– The Museli yoghurt combo was exotic and fluffy omelet serving also makes it a good choice.
Social Staff Meal de Jour is essentially a staff meal, well-balanced and nutritive ideal for people in active jobs.
– I felt they should have included roti as well as part of this meal.
Among the salads, we opted for Bombay Bhel Puri Salad, an assortment of greens and tamarind chutney dressing mixed with rice puffs.
– It was too tangy, could have been less.
Finally, our curiosity for Chinese here made us order from its Chinese offerings called Chilli Chicken Black Pepper China Box .As the name suggests, it was Haka noodle / rice served with Chicken prepared in Crushed black pepper sauce.
– It was just average and I felt little over-priced.
Now coming to the drinks menu, we tried the twin “The Longest Long Island Ice Tea (Electric & Toxic 1000ml/500ml), Deconstructed Moscow Mule, Two Lost Souls Swimming in A Fish Bowl and Earl of Gin.
Since my review is already very long,I’m not going to describe these cocktails. My observation: The cocktails presentation was great, highly innovative and eye catching. The portioning was good. The taste could have been better.
My rating : Overall 4/5 (Food 4/5 ; Service 4/5 : Ambiance 4/5 )
Recommendation /Observations – It is a must visit place.
Hardy’s Bhai Istyle Breakfast is highly recommended. Food and portion is a big plus. Even the prices are competitive. Drinks though very presentable but just average. Service is generally good but May get slow due rush hours.
