“Mentioned by Lonely Planet , as a legendary South Indian eatery , it has been serving food since 1924 as Brahmin Coffee Club renamed as Mavalli Tiffin Room (MTR) in 1951.

Rava Idli (P.C MTR)

Situated now in 5 cities in India , Singapore, Oman and UAE , it is known for inventing the healthy Rava Idli, the steamed semolina cakes ,made with blended yoghurt, coriander, cashew nuts, curry leaves and mustard seeds, as an alternative during World War II, when rice was in short supply. With passage of time, it gained popularity and is now one of the most popular dishes at MTR.

Chandrahara (P.C MTR)

Their signature deep fried dessert since 1950s, Chandrahara ,made with maida flour and is topped with a thick, sweet liquid khoa is available only during Sundays.

I had my dose of nostalgia recently at their Kalyan Nagar outlet.The place was full with food enthusiasts. We began with the hot Masala Dosa , my favourite thick and crispy Indian pan cake , made to perfection here with mix of rice & black lentils batter , accompanied by spiced potatoes and pampered with ghee (Indian clarified butter) , giving it the right amount of sponginess to savour.

Next to arrive was the karnataka delicacy, Bisi Bele Bath , literally meaning ‘hot lentil rice’ . I loved its absolutely delightful favours of dish which is said to be over 3 centuries, originated from the royal kitchens of the Wodeyars dynasty of Mysore.

The Khara Bath and Kesari Bath , the duo often called Chow Chow Bath , when plated and served together, were next to arrive at our table. These two semolina based dishes with savoury and sweet flavours respectively compliment each other very well.
