Hotel Review | O’nya Phuket Hotel | Thailand
After my blissful stay at Phi Phi , it was time to head to the largest island of the Thailand, Phuket . One of the most exciting destination of the island nation, it seems to have it all, from white sand beaches with best of spas and resorts , the sinful and entertaining Patong’s nightlife ,to art and cultural places like Big Buddha and Wat Chalong Temple , wildlife sanctuaries and national parks towards the northern side.
GETTING TO O’NYA PHUKET HOTEL
After our arrival at the Rassada Pier , we hired a shared van to the hotel ,that is situated on a busy area with lot of shopping malls near the vicinity, like the Central Festival Phuket , Big C , Lotus etc. The old Phuket town is 30-35 minutes away from our stay location. The Phuket International airport is 45-60 minutes away depending on the traffic conditions.
The Phuket Men in Black
Uber services are not available in the city , but you can download Grab Taxi app as an expensive alternative.
O’NYA PHUKET HOTEL
An award winning Boutique hotel , O’nya’s architecture and interiors draws its inspiration from the traditional centuries old Sino-Portuguese style of shophouses.

Soon after completing the check in formalities , we headed to the room on the first floor.Since there is no porter service and no lifts in the hotel property , carrying luggage could be sometimes a herculean task especially for those who don’t travel light. It has 24 selectively boutique designed guest room spread over the three sections , A , B & C, all on the first floor. We passed through beautiful corridors with old furniture and artefacts to our room. Those who are fond of swimming and Gym would be disappointed at this boutique place.

MY ROOM
It was a specious room and very well appointed, with two levels. The beds were on the lower level , and we had to step down two stairs to section from the entrance. The lush white interiors were truly mesmerising and the room had amenities like air conditioning, LED television, rain-shower, complimentary WiFi access.
The Bathroom was spacious, well designed and beautiful. The ceramic wash basins truly complimented the interiors and well furnished with the essential toiletries.
“ Our stay at O’nya gave us a living experience of the early Chinese immigrants with all the modern comforts and facilities.”
DINING – IN & AROUND O’NYA PHUKET HOTEL
There are quite a few dining options adjacent to the O’nya. The Indians will be delighted to see Indian restaurant named “Bollywood“, and “Backyard Phuket” that serves Asian and american menu. Less than a kilometre away, are the fast-food chains like MacDonald & KFC and Central Festival Phuket , that has plenty of restaurants and Food Patio to satiate hunger. The Pizza company is also a good option for Pizza lovers like me.
GOING AROUND FROM O’NYA PHUKET HOTEL
The Phuket Town is just 3 km away and it is a must visit for history and art lovers would be charmed by its 18th century Sino-Portuguese architecture. For the happening night life ,the Patong Beach known for its nightclubs, beer and Go Go bars and restaurants is just 8 km away. If you love to party and are looking for the wide options of bars and clubs , then you can head to Bangla Road , that is less than 8 km away from O’nya. SERVICE
They have 24 hour reception with English speaking staff. Very helpful and cooperative, they helped us book the cab to Phuket International Airport early morning. Certainly the hospitality levels were very high at O’nya.
THE VERDICT
We enjoyed our stay here and glad we booked it through Booking.com , our preferred hotel reservation site. The well appointed Sino-Portuguese style rooms with modern amenities made our stay very comfortable here. The absence of room lift and swimming pool may be a deterrent for some but the service and hospitality made our experience a memorable one. Will I stay here again , the answer is yes.
