Restaurant Review : Potful Biryani , Bangalore | India
“For most of us Biryani is not just a food but an emotion.”
We all are passionate about our own regional style biryanis. For a bengali , no biryani is good without a potato while someone from south would will not settle for anything less than a hyderabadi or ambur style of biryani ,while most of Bangaloreans would love their Donne Biryani more than any other biryani.
Potful Biryani , a brainchild venture of Lokesh Krishnan ,is an attempt to bring authentic biryanis from across India to the residents of Bangalore.
What makes this Biryani different from most of others is its cooking and delivering the biryani in the same claypot , using best of ingredients and masalas to the biryani enthusiasts.
Recently we tried some of their biryanis and other dishes from their delivery-only outlet at Sarjapur road. Among the biryanis we tried were the Lucknowi Mutton Biryani and its cousin from bengal , the Kolkata biryani , as we felt that quality of these regional biryani from places miles away from southern India would amount to good judging parameter for us.
As most of us are aware , the Biryanis from north and east use traditionally long grain rice like aromatic basmati for their preparations while in the south , small grained zeera samba , kaima, jeerakashala and kala bhaat that give the distinct style of taste, texture and aroma to their biryanis.
I was quite impressed with the quality of the two different style of biryanis ,and their near perfect flavours and quality of goat meat.Inspired by their good biryanis , I would like to try their variants from south next time.As they serve other dishes too , we tried their Dum Nihari Ghost and Amritsari fish. Loved the subtle mughlai style nihari preparation but missed the roomali or naan to go with it.
My verdict : Loved the concept of preparing and delivering briyani in the same claypot. The biryanis are quite good and reminiscent of their place of origin. Inspired by this experience , I would like to try more from their extensive menu. The mughlai style Nihari was good too and I hope they also start serving Indian breads like roomali , naan , sheermal to name few.
