Restaurant Review : Banh Mi and Wok, Bangalore

Read Time:2 Minute, 11 Second

The rising popularity of pan-Asian cuisine has led to the opening of more and more restaurants serving the south eastern asian cuisine in Bangalore. Located near the busy CMH Road & 100 Feet road intersection, Banh Mi and Wok is a recently opened quick service Restaurant, that has become popular for its deliciously creative authentic Pan-Asian street food in very short span of time.Having a penchant for food from Malaysia , Vietnam and Thailand , I was here recently to try this place with few friends., having heard lot about this place.

Banh

The terminology of the restaurant name has its own character and essence – Banh Mi is the Vietnamese word for sandwich bread; Wok means a large, versatile round-bottomed cooking vessel, which is used for stir fry.

The Ambience

The interiors and vibrant , colourful and have been done keep in mind the QSR format of the restaurant. Perfect setting for the quick meal on the go especially during lunch time , or informal meetings and even casual date, very similar to those in Bangkok .

The Menu

Keeping in mind the Quick service format , the menu is predicatively reflects the street foods of the region and the portioning is usually for an individual , served in a cardboard lunch boxes that are easy to carry and eat in.

Must try are their dishes for their Stir fries & Curries section. My pick would be the  Bangkok Magic Thai Chicken curry  served with steamed rice and the Stir fried Shanghai Noon Fish and the Malaysian Nasi Lemak Chicken wings. If you are fond of Baos , the menu here will enthral you with its offerings. I also tried  their Banh Mi menu and enjoyed most of their dishes from the section. For those with small appetite and also for kids, the Small Bites are worth mentioning. These short eats can also be perfect accompaniments with the meal here.

The Desserts menu is limited , and we could only order the Fried Banana with ice cream. The other , Tab Tim Krob, was unfortunately unavailable. We did try their bottled drinks like iced coffee , but found them quite average.

The Verdict

The place is decently good for casual eats and meals in a hurry. But definitely not among the best in the city. The desserts options are promising but they need to add more dishes to their existing menu. The drinks here were a big letdown and needs lot of improvement in terms of flavours and consistency. I would rate it 7/10.
