Established in 1924 , Mavalli Tiffin Rooms, known more popularly as MTR, is one of the oldest iconic restaurants in Bangalore. They shifted to present location on Lalbagh Road in 1960, and has been serving its patrons since then with same fervour and quality.
“Mentioned by Lonely Planet , as a legendary South Indian eatery , it has been serving food since 1924 as Brahmin Coffee Club renamed as Mavalli Tiffin Room (MTR) in 1951.
With its presence in 5 Indian cities along with overseas presence in Singapore, Oman and UAE ,Itis now a global food and beverage brand.
It is known for inventing the steamed semolina cakes ,made with blended yoghurt, coriander, cashew nuts, curry leaves and mustard seeds, the healthy Rava Idli. This was meant an alternative to regular idly during World War II, when rice was in short supply. But later with passage of time, it became immensely popular.And it is now regarded as one of the most popular MTR dishes.
