Coastal Food Festival at Asia Alive, DoubleTree by Hilton, Bengaluru (20-31 Mar’17)
The peninsular India is known for its spectacular coastlines. The incredible 7,516.6 km long shores are also home to large diversity of inhabitants with different culture and food habits. One will be amazed to know that the nine coastal Indian states of Gujarat , Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka , Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh ,Odisha and West Bengal along with the Union Territories of Daman & Diu and Puducherry has so much to offer to the India’s culinary platter.
Thanks to abundant natural rich resources, the Indian coastal cuisine is mostly known for its meats and seafood fare. But there is no dearth of dishes for the vegetarians in this region. Like any other cuisine , the coastal food in India has been influenced by the local climatic and geographical conditions , along with the cultural effect bought by the French, Portuguese and Arabs. And that’s the beauty of Indian food, as it absorbs the foreign Kitchen influences yet retaining its essence.
Some of the popular cuisines from the Indian shorelines I could recall are the Moplah Cuisine and Malabari cuisine from Kerala) , the Parsi cuisine from primarily Mumbai , the Goan & Portuguese food from Goa, the Malwani Cuisine from Goa & Maharastra , the Karavali from southern region, French cuisine in Puducherry and the Bengali & Odiya cuisine from the eastern most coast. Do let me know if you know more coastal cuisines.
DoubleTree by Hilton , Bengaluru is hosting COASTAL FOOD FESTIVAL – Of Sand, Surf & Coastal Cravings from 20th to 31st March , 2017 in the evenings. I was invited for the Food review yesterday with some of the food celebrities of Bangalore.
